A combination of a picturesque town, water and dusk is a potent photographic subject.
This is Hallstatt, on the shores of the Hallstätter See in Austria, and Liz and I have spent most of the day wandering about looking at stuff and taking photos.
It's nearly time to start the 90 minute drive back to Schladming. Liz is sat in the car waiting and I'm just trying to squeeze off one more 30 second exposure of the town reflecting in the quietening waters.
Off to one side a couple of Japanese teenagers are squeezing off a few photos of the same scene on their compacts, with flashes popping uselessly in the gathering gloom. Some folk just think that technology can do anything.
I'm too old to fall for that so my good old Canon 5D is in full manual mode, firmly bolted to my tripod, just like I used to do it in the dark ages of film. Some things never change!
