Late January on Tenerife in the Canary Islands is a great time to visit this amazing part of the world, as the island is at its most verdant, with new spring growth bursting forth even in the arid uplands.
So my wife Liz and I really enjoyed our week here in January 2020, driving around the mountainous volcanic interior of Tenerife, marvelling at the huge landscapes, covered in places with the richness of new plant life and growth.
One area we found particularly interesting was the semi-arid uplands around the village of Vilaflor, at 1,400 metres altitude the highest settlement on Tenerife, and we spent a lot of time exploring and photographing the volcanic features and plants in this unique environment.
Such as this image featuring a huge volcanic plug, dotted with specially adapted cloud pines and sporting a patch of verdant new growth at its base.
