'On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair....'
OK, so I'm not in California, but the same air of mystery prevails as I gaze along the TF-21 highway as it passes through the amazing Teide National Park, disappearing around a bend against the volcanic crater walls of the Mount Teide caldera.
There's something very enigmatic about a road through a barren landscape, especially when the road leads somewhere out of the frame of reference.
Where is it going? What's around the bend out of sight? What will happen if I travel along it a little further?
But there was nothing prosaic about the actual taking of this photo, waiting for a gap in the traffic with my wife Liz watching out behind while I dashed into the traffic lane for a few seconds to grab a couple of frames.
But that's a secondary consideration, compared with the feeling of anticipation that just looking at this image still brings to the fore in my mind.
Just what is around that bend?
