Ever since my wife Liz and I first visited Tenerife in the Canary Islands many years ago, a ride to the summit of Mount Teide on the Teleferico del Teide cablecar has been on our list of things we really wanted to do.
And during a week long winter sun break in Janaury 2020 we finally braved the crazy car parking arrangements and rode the cablecar up to the upper station, at an altitude of just under 12,000 feet above sea level, just below Mount Teide's volcanic crater.
Once at the top the views (and the lack of oxygen!) left us quite breathless, and I wasted no time in trying to capture the slendour laid out below me in dozens of photographs.
But we also had a great view of the cablecar doing its regular approach from way below, so I took the opportunity to shoot this photo, featuring the gondola just as it arrived at the upper cablecar station, set against the deep blue of the high altitude sky.
