Although my wife Liz and I tend to avoid tourist hotspots when on holiday, we did find an afternoon during our week long winter break on Tenerife in the Canary Islands to take a walk westwards along the coastal path from our resort at the heavily developed Costa Adeje.
The further westwards we ventured, the less developed the coastal strip became, and we started to really enjoy our time exploring the unique volcanic rock shoreline.
The geological formations at Playa del Duque were especially interesting, with the powerful Atlantic swells undercutting the rock shelf while throwing dramatic plumes of spray up into the air.
Of course I had my camera with me, just in case we came across an interesting scene like this, and we spent a pleasant quarter of an hour photographing the shoreline rocks and breaking waves before carrying on with our stroll along the coast.
