Driving northwards along the coast road paralleling the huge volcanic cliffs at Los Gigantos on the west coast of Tenerife in the Canary Islands, my wife Liz and I kept on seeing tantailising glimpses of the neighbouring island of La Gomera through gaps in the rocks.
We were enjoying a week's winter warmth, and as is our preference, we spent most of the time driving round in our little hire car exploring the unspoilt, off the beaten track regions of Tenerife.
The narrow, twisting mountain road wasn't conducive to impromtu halts for photographic purposes, but eventually we found a layby that gave us this view through the cliffs and out over the Atlantic ocean to the island of La Gomera, seemingly just a short distance away.
The bright afternoon sun was beaming down through a hazy sky, so I decided to include it in this composition, and to make the sun more of a feature I used the smallest aperture available on my lens in order to create a starburst effect.
