'And as the sun sinks slowly in the west, we bid 'farewell' to this sun kissed tropical paradise' - anyone else old enough to remember Alan Whicker and 'Whicker's World' - I thought not!
The west of Ireland may not be a 'sun kissed tropical paradise', but it has a beauty and serenity all its own, and although this is by no means a techincally perfect photograph, it does convey just a hint of the mystery that is Ireland.
Taken at the end of the day on a trip around Loop Head, this was one of those all too rare occasions when the sun actually set rather than just disappearing into a bank of cloud.
The sea and silhoutted cliff add a sense of place, and I had to park quite inconveniently to get these elements arranged as I wanted them in the time available.
I only had the time to take one handheld shot of this scene before a queue of cars built up behind me and I had to jump back in my car and drive off.
Even so, it was a beautiful end to our week in Ireland. We'll be back!
