The story behind this image

It's easy when faced with a wonderful view of a big landscape to ignore the beauty to be found in small details, and yet, sometimes the small details reveal more about the nature of a place than the grand scene can.

I noticed this arrangement of tide worn stones, nestled in a cleft in a foreshore rock, while out photographing at one of my favourite locations, Penmon Point on the island of Anglesey.

No doubt about it, Penmon has grand scenery. What with the sea, shingle beach, wonderful rocks and dramatic lighthouse it's easy to be overwhelmed with what immediately meets the eye.

But having sated my photographic appetite for the grand scene, I'm glad I looked down at my feet and was not so visually drunk to miss the beauty and meaning to be found in the small, intimate tableau laid out so invitingly for my enjoyment.
