Surely one of the most dramatically situated lighthouses in the world.
This is South Stack on the northwestern coast of the beautiful Isle of Anglesey, North Wales, a place that I've photographed numerous times in the past, and no doubt will continue to do so into the future.
Situated on a rocky promentory at the bottom of magnificent sea cliffs, the lighthouse overlooks the approach to Holyhead harbour from the Irish Sea, and is the scene for some spectacular sunsets.
But it's not just visually impressive, as the cliffs and headlands hold treats for all the senses, and none more so than in spring, when this image was captured.
Colourful wild flowers grow in abundance here, spreading their fragrance into the sea scented breeze while thousands of nesting sea birds on the cliffs drown out the sounds of waves crashing on the rocks with their incessant calling.
Just a wonderful place, and a photo can only convey a fraction of the sense of well being that seeps into one's soul while standing on these awesome cliffs watching the sky put on another unique twilight display.
