One of the most dramatic drives in North Wales (or anywhere else for that matter!) takes you from the county town of Denbigh high over the Denbigh Moors before dropping you back down onto the A5 at Pentrefoelas.
Affectionately known as the 'Sportsman's Pass', this road gives stunning views out over the bleak moorland to the peaks of the Snowdonia National Park to the west.
A reasonably clear winter's day in early February 2017 found my wife Liz and I heading for Snowdonia for a spot of hiking, but instead of taking the fastest route along the A55 coast road we decided on a more scenic approach over the Sportsman's Pass.
Definitely a good decision, as patches of sunlight flashed across the dry grasses of the moors, turning brown to gold in the crisp winter's light, while in the far distance the snow capped mountains of Snowdonia rose like something out of 'Lord of the Rings' under a cloud wracked sky.
There's not many safe places to stop on the Sportsmans Pass, but eventually I found a convenient farm gate to pull into so I could take this photo of the stunning view.
Well worth taking the scenic route on a day like this, and we carried on to the mountains just marvelling at God's beautiful creation laid out for us to enjoy.
