When I'm walking round a city with my camera I'm always on the lookout for details that evoke a sense of place. Some image that is immediately recogniseable and takes the viewer mentally to that location.
I've got quite a collection of photos of manhole covers from around the world for this very purpose!
However, in Paris it's the famous place names that conjure up that sense of being there. Just as a certain smell will bring back memories and emotions, so too, for me, place names bring about that undefineable feeling of Paris, the wide boulevards, the cherry blossom in the spring, sailing down the Seine - I'm sure you get the picture.
This is just one image from my collection of Paris street name signs, names that are known all around the world.
