During the Mediterranean cruise my wife Liz and I embarked on last summer I made a point of getting up before sunrise each morning and walking the decks to enjoy the cool breeze and soft light before the sun rose.
This photo was taken as we approached the coast of Corfu, and although nothing dramatic is happening I just loved the play of soft twilight on the laced awnings stretching out in front of me, while the first colours of dawn crept across the eastern horizon.
Shortly after the sun rose this white fabric just became a blaze of blown highlights and all the subtlety of the scene vanished in an overdose of heat and light.
I never cease to be amazed at the variety and beauty of natural light, and having photography as a hobby just helps me to appreciate it more.
And God said 'Let there be light!' - and it was so.
