Lerwick, the capital of the Shetland islands situated to the north of Scotland, is primarily a maritime town, with a busy harbour and nautical paraphenalia everywhere you look.
Liz and I spent a very enjoyable day exploring Lerwick on the final leg of our cruise to Iceland and back on board the P&O liner Azura, anchored offshore as it was too big to fit into the port!
Having looked all around the shops and lovely old stone seafront cottages, we had a wander around the working port, with plenty of boats to see, gleaming in the bright sunshine as they bobbed up and down in the azure waters.
I'm sure the weather isn't this nice normally in the Shetland Islands, being stuck out in the north Atlantic, but we certainly appreciated the sun while we were there.
As you would expect, the docks provided plenty of photographic opportunites, and to avoid being overwhelmed with detail I composed this image quite tightly, just featuring the prows of three of the smaller boats that were tied up to the jetty.
The contrast of the colourful, brightly lit boats resting on the deep green of the sea in the harbour was especially appealing.
