Walking around the seaside town of Lerwick, the capital of the Shetland Islands, one of the many lovely things that suprised Liz and myself was the colour and clarity of the sea.
For this view, looking across the harbour bay from a convenient slipway, I was taken by the contrast in colour between the dark golden brown of a large patch of seaweed just under the surface of the water, and the cyan of the sea, seemingly lit from underneath by sunlight reflecting off the pale sand.
A lovely sight in its own right, but lacking a certain something from a photographic point of view.
Fortunately for me there was a small boat anchored just in the right spot to provide a much needed focal point for this image, with its red hull giving the eye something to rest on inbetween enjoying the colours of the sea and seaweed.
The whole composition is topped off by just a thin layer of sky, containing attractive patches of blue together with nicely lumpy cumulus clouds.
All in all a lovely image that shows some of the features of the Lerwick harbour at its best.
