If there was one defining feature that could be applied to Lerwick, the capital of the Shetland Islands off Scotland's north coast, it would be boats.
Everywhere Liz and I looked as we spent the day exploring this charming seaside town, there would be a boat, or something nautical, within view.
One of the nicest parts of the town, from my photographic point of view, was the road that ran alongside the sea, lined with old stone cottages that looked like they'd been through a storm or two.
Parked up on trestles next to one of these cottages I spotted this slightly distressed looking rowing boat, together with some rusting ironwork, that combined made a compelling image that sort of encapsulated the relaxed feel of Lerwick.
A bit of careful composing to exclude the surrounding distracting details and I was able to capture the boat and ironwork in a way that tells a story of a lifetime battling the elements.
