Sunrise is one of my favourite times of the day.
Of course, living in Wales as I do, a sunrise during which you can actually see the sun is quite rare, so I especially appreciate the chance to visit foreign climes where the chance of a sunny sunrise is much higher.
I photographed this particular sunrise in glorious solitude from the upper deck of the P&O cruise liner Arcadia as she sailed up the coast of Montenegro in the eastern Mediterranean sea en route to Kotor.
Sunrise from the deck of a cruise liner is an extra special experience, as the clear sea air and high viewpoint combine to give a unique feel to the start of the day. Everything seems fresh and new with the smell of the sea and the sound of the waves adding to the enjoyment of the moment.
Throw in a distant mountain range for good measure and you've got a wonderful, uplifting, start to the day.
A few minutes pass and the sun has risen further, beyond what's reasonable for an evocative photo. So it's off to the all day buffet for me for the first cup of coffee of the day. What a life!
