A two week vacation (I'm turning into an American!) in Sedona, Arizona, proved a wonderful opportunity for my wife Liz and I to get out and explore the miles of trails and amazing sandstone geology that this area is famous for.
Most of our trips out took place during normal working hours, from mid-morning to mid afternoon, and therefore most of the photographs I took on this trip were snapshots to take home and remember.
However, some locations were so visually stunning that I determined to come back and photograph them 'properly', in dramatic light and with a tripod.
Such a location was this one, the airport overlook which gives a view over Sedona with Capitol Butte in the background.
This is the straight tourist snapshot version, taken during the day. It's nice enough I guess but I reckoned I could do better by coming back at the beginning or the end of the day, when light and weather should give a much more expressive image.
