8pm on a crisp, clear spring evening in April and I'm at one of my favourite viewing spots on the slopes of the my local hill, Moel Famau, overlooking the Vale of Clwyd below.
Half an hour after sunset and the sky to the west is glowing orange and mauve as twilight gives way to night, while in the Vale below the lights of Ruthin provide a warming counterpoint to the onset of darkness.
In the zone between night and twilight a new moon hangs like a jewel in the vastness of space, engaging in a courtly celestial dance with its partner for the evening, the planet Venus.
This is a mystical, wonderful time, as the last of the light bleeds slowly down to the western horizon and the coming night draws a veil over the scene.
