Normally when you think of a rose you first of all think of colour, but for this image I wanted to place more emphasis on the shapes, tones and textures of the flower, that sometimes get overwhelmed in a full colour rendition.
So even though this pink rose was photographed in colour on Fuji Velvia transparency film, reknowned for its rich, saturated reds and greens, I decided to convert the final image to monochrome with a warm tone applied to the highlights and shadows.
Doing so allows one to more fully appreciate the design and delicacy of this quintessentially English flower.
I only wish I could include some scent in the image as well!
