One of the most interesting and varied trails that my wife Liz and I hiked during our two week holiday in the Rocky Mountain National Park was the Mills Lake Trail.
Starting at the Glacier Gorge trailhead and carrying on up through mixed forests of pine and aspen, the trail roughly follows the course of Glacier Creek as it flows down from Mills Lake.
With the creek bubbling along by the side of the trail, we stopped by this little waterfall for a bite to eat and a photograph.
It was quite sunny that day, which isn't the best light for photographing moving water, but after a few minutes' wait the sun was briefly obscured by a passing cloud and I was able to take this image in the flat light.
A polarising filter helped to remove glare and allowed the lovely colours of the surrounding rocks and tree to shine through.
