I'd been stood rooted to this spot on the shores of Sprague Lake in the Rocky Mountain National Park for two and a half hours, shooting still images for my time lapse video Rocky Mountain Time Lapse #2, and this individual image was one of the final frames taken.
During that two and a half hours I'd seen the moon setting behind Hallett Peak and the rising sun paint the landscape in flowing light in a most beautiful way, but my favourite view, shown here, occured when the faint breeze died away to reveal an almost perfect reflection in the surface of the lake, with the two rocks in the foreground having just caught the light for the first time.
A few minutes later I started on the stroll back around the lake to the car park, stopping here and there for 'just one more' photo of this most lovely of locations, and was back at my hotel in Estes Park in time for breakfast.
What a way to start the day, lost in the pristine glory of God's creation.
