Driving south along the interstate highway I7 from Estes Park to Allenspark in Colorado takes you past some of the most stunning scenery.
To the west are the highest peaks in the Rocky Mountain National Park, including Longs Peak at 14,259 feet.
Liz and I took this drive on a couple of occasions during our two week stay in the area, and with no strict schedule to follow we were able to pull over and admire the views whenever we wanted.
This particular spot really took our fancy, with a typical wooden ranch fence at the side of the road providing a bottom frame to this image of Longs Peak in the background.
It was quite bright and sunny when I took this photo, and even with a polarising filter fitted the washed out colours and haze prevented the impact and majesty of the mountains being appreciated.
So a conversion to monochrome, allowing a serious boost to contrast that couldn't have been attempted with the original colour image, brought out the drama of the scene that we felt at the time.
