During our two week stay in and around the Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, my wife Liz and I took a long excursion along the Trail Ridge Road, all the way from Estes Park, where we were staying down to Grand Lake, right at the bottom of the park.
To break the journey we stopped at the charming Lake Irene for a stroll along the trailhead to the lake and back.
Although not set in as dramatic a location as the more well known lakes in the park, never the less we really enjoyed our brief sojourn here, and went on our way refreshed from our break.
Although not shot in great light, this image gives a good idea of how the lake looks at the tail end of Autumn, just before the big freeze hits.
