One of the nicest hikes that Liz and I enjoyed during our stay in Estes Park, right next to the Rocky Mountain National Park, was the Bierstatd Lake Trail that runs from Bear Lake, through a variety of woodlands, up to Bierstadt Lake at an altutude of just under 9,500 feet above sea level.
Due to the altitude (my excuse!) we took it easy, being overtaken on the trail by numerous octagenarians, with whom we met up with again on the shores of Bierstadt Lake.
The lake and its surrondings were just beautiful, with golden grasses and views out to the high peaks of the Rockies, such as Hallett Peak and Flattop.
Bierstadt was pretty shallow, and I was attracted, photographically apeaking, to the sub surface details such as decaying tree trunks, pointing towards the mountains in the far distance.
My trusty polarising filter did a grand job of cutting through the surface glare, allowing the rich colours of the lake bed to be seen clearly.
Just a lovely, lovely part of God's creation.
