The story behind this image

During our stay in Estes Park, right next to the Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, Liz and I had the opportunity to visit local outdoor photographer Erik Stensland's gallery.

We were well impressed with his vision and presentation of his work showing the park in all its beauty.

So much so that we bought one of his photo plaques showing the milky way over Bear Lake, which is now hanging on our sitting room wall.

Well, that got me fired up to try photographing the milky way over Bear Lake myself, and you can see the result here.

I think Erik's shot is better, as it was shot in June and thus features the galactic centre (only visible in summer in the northern hemisphere) and was shot on a moonless night, which just goes to show that living locally to your photographic venue of choice always pays off.

So I can either move to Colorado, or I could try getting out more in my little patch of beauty here in North Wales!
