Head south for a few miles from Estes Park, turn right and you'll find yourself at the Wild Basin Trail, just inside Colorado's Rocky Mountain National Park.
The Wild Basin Trail is a delightful hike, following the path of the North Saint Vrain Creek as it winds its way through groves of aspen and pine and passes by sparkling waterfalls.
My wife Liz and I were on holiday, exploring and hiking in the area in late September 2015, which turned out to be one of the best times of the year to be there.
The beautiful fall colours were at their peak while we were there, and with cool, crisp and clear days we really enjoyed our outdoor exercise.
Of course, our hiking exploits were punctuated by regular stops for photography, and with those fantastic golden apsens on show, who could blame us?
