During our two week holiday touring the Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado in late September, Liz and I saw many beautiful sights, but what generated the most 'oohs' and 'aahs' from us were the lovely fall colours that developed over our time there.
We found some of the best examples of aspens in their autumn finery while we were hiking up from Bear Lake to Bierstadt Lake one glorious sunny morning, with this patch of trees showing a lovely rich orange colour, set against the grey tumbled rocks that lined the side of the trail.
At an altitude of 9,500 feet above sea level the sky was a crisp blue, which I intensified with a polarising filter to create an almost surreal blue/orange colour contrast that really made the leaves stand out against the darkened heavens.
