Autumn in the Rocky Mountains, probably the nicest time of year to be here, with crisp air, crisp light and the wonderful colours of aspen leaves as they enact their annual transformation from green, through yellow, to gold before falling to the ground.
It's the last week in September, and the Rocky Mountain National Park is preparing for winter as Liz and I spend a glorious fortnight hiking the trails, jaws well and truly dropped at the beauty that surrounds us.
One particularly spectacular hike, in terms of colours, was the route we took from Bear Lake to Bierstadt Lake, climbing through groves of golden aspens, interspersed with scented pines through which chipmunks and squirrels were busy gathering their winter stores.
Of course, the hike took much longer than would have been the case if I hadn't stopped every few yards to take a photo of the stunning views around every bend in the trail.
This image shows just one group of tress out of the dozens that we passed, but seeing Hallet Peak in the background, and a glimpse of Bear Lake below, made this view a bit more special, and well worth the time it took to set up and shoot this stitched panorama.
A happy memory of a wonderful place - I hope we get to go back there.
