Driving from Estes Park along the Trail Ridge Road through the Rocky Mountain National Park, Liz and I just had to stop at a convenient pull over to admire these spectacular clouds forming over the high peaks to the south.
Clouds were rare during our two week stay in Colorado, with clear blue skies being the norm for our late September visit, so this chiaroscuro patchwork of sunlight and shadow playing over the landscape was too good a photo opportunity to miss.
To help boost the contrast between the clouds and sky I used a polarising filter at full strength to darken the patches of blue, and back home in post-processing a conversion to monochrome allowed me to boost the contrast further, really bringing out the drama that we experienced during that brief stop on our day out.
