A glorious drive along the Trail Ridge Road in the Rocky Mountain National Park, heading south from Estes Park to Grand Lake, took Liz and I beside the valley in which the nascent Colorado River flows.
On the far side of the valley, to the west, lies the curiously named Never Summer Mountains range.
Odd really, as the day we stopped to admire and photograph the view the entire scene was bathed in warm, golden autumn sunlight, with just a few cumulus clouds adding patches of shadow that tracked across the landscape like punctuation marks on a page.
