High up in the Rocky Mountains, the view from the Alpine Visitor Centre at 12,000 feet altitude was breathtaking, both literally and figuratively!
One of the many favourite things that my wife Liz and I did during our two week stay in the area was to drive up the one way Old Falls River Road dirt track up to the Alpine Visitor Centre, have a cup of coffee, a visit to the toilets and a look at the views before carrying on along the Trail Ridge Road, the highest paved road in the United States, back to our hotel in Estes Park.
In fact, I'm feeling wistful and wishing we were back there as I write this.
Anyhow, on this occasion, the view from the balcony at the Visitor Centre was just stunning, with the sun at just the right angle to produce a wonderful zigzag of light and shadow running down the Falls River valley below.
It's this combination of light and dark that this image is all about really, adding shape and form to a scene that would look pretty flat without.
What could be nicer than sitting in the sun in the crisp thin air, sipping hot coffee and photographing views like this?
