This location, just outside Sedona in Arizona, is quite famous amongst photographers and you can find a multitude of images similar to these on the web.
This is Cathedral Rock, reflecting in the waters of Oak Creek as it flows over a bed of sandstone, with tree lined banks either side.
As this spot was only fifteen minutes from where my wife Liz and I were staying on holiday we were able to pick our moment to visit and photograph here, which was a definite bonus as the west facing rock caught the sunset light beautifully.
This particular evening the sky was heavy with brooding dark clouds over the rock, with a gap towards the western horizon through which a shaft of sunlight beamed through for twenty minutes or so, striking the sandstone and causing it to glow against the darkening sky.
This type of lighting is one of my favourites and I certainly made the most of it on this occasion.
