This desres, built out on the river in the village of Cong, Co. Galway in the west of Ireland, may need a little work to bring it up to code - or so the estate agents blurb would say if it were for sale.
I don't know what this building was orginally all those hundreds of years ago when it was built. A chapel maybe, or a hunting/fishing lodge, who knows? What I do know is that Ireland is rich in decayed, unusual, historical piles of stone such as this, which act as a magnet for myself and other photographers.
There were plenty of snappers out and about in Cong on the day Liz and I were there, and although this scene looks deserted and peaceful I had to wait a while for an opportunity to take this picture with no-one in it.
Sometimes including a person in the picture adds to the composition, sometimes not. This was one of those 'sometimes not' occasions, but with a little patience I got the shot I wanted, free of brightly coloured kagoul clad tourists, such as myself.
