I'm not a big fan of browsing around in shops - even camera shops don't do it for me.
So when my wife Liz, who's an avid knitter, spotted a shop selling Icelandic wool and patterns while walking around Reykjavik I knew I would have fifteen minutes or so of waiting time outside in the street.
Not that I minded in the least, as it gave me a chance to have a good look around and get in the photographic zone, where you start to see things around you that fire your artistic imagination.
I didn't have long to wait before spotting these colourful socks, worn by a girl who had stopped to take a photo of a famous, but visually uninspiring building opposite from where I was standing.
The socks were typical of the subversive Icelandic spirit that I was starting to notice, a colour rebellion against the grey weather, grey architecture and grey landscape that makes up this mostly monochrome island.
