The story behind this image

Strolling around the streets of Reykjavik, Iceland on a grey and drizzly summer's day, my eyes were drawn like a magnet to the brightly painted Cafe Babalu, standing out like a ray of sunshine against the muted colours of the buildings surrounding it.

This bright and colourful neon sign was just one of the many visual delights that adorned the cafe.

In fact the venue was so attractive that Liz and I just had to stop for a coffee there, and the inside was just as friendly looking as the outside, as were the staff who served us.

The cafe was typical of the almost subversive nature of the Icelanders, fighting against the grey weather and grey architecture with random splashes of outrageous colour, warmth and friendliness.
