This is the Daer reservoir in the Scottish border county of Dumfries and Galloway.
Surrounded by the Lowther Hills, this is a stark landscape, full of brooding presence and history.
No doubt on a sunny day the mood here is completely different, but to my mind the lowering skies, heavy with incipient rain, are much more in keeping with the 'feel' of Scotland.
Of course, a flat grey expanse of cloud would have been a photo killer, but Liz and I were treated to a wonderful display of dramatic weather with shafts of sunlight bravely breaking though the heavy cloud to spotlight the hills and waters below.
Just fantastic lighting for a lover of such scenery such as myself.
