A typical day on the North Wales coastal strip, with alternating band of sunshine and showers sweeping in off the Irish Sea.
This rainbow formed and disappeared very quickly when a shower passed directly over us as Liz and I were parked up on the promenade at Colwyn Bay, thinking about whether or not to risk a soaking by venturing out.
Soaking or not, I wasn't going to let this opportunity pass by, as the rainbow seemed to be right next to the car, so out I dashed, grabbed my camera, which had a Canon 100-400 zoom fitted at the time, quickly fitted a polarising filter and dashed off a couple of exposures before the rainbow faded as quickly as it had formed.
In my haste, I over-exposed the first shot, washing out the rainbow's colours so I dialled in a faster shutter speed and took this image, in which the colours of the rainbow stand out vividly against the darker background.
