Like a Spanish flamenco dancer giving her skirt a final twirl, this decaying poppy flower is a lovely study in both colour and form.
I spotted the poppy while Liz and I were touring the gardens of Claude Monet, one of the foremost impressionist painters of the nineteenth century.
There were many other beautiful sights in and around the gardens, but this dying poppy I found to be something special.
