If you make the effort to get out of bed, then every now and then you'll see something wonderful.
A 2.30am alarm call started my day in mid June, close to the longest day of the year, and an hour and a half later I was in position on the cliff edge overlooking the iconic lighthouse and Puffin Island at Penmon Point on the southeastern tip of the beautiful Isle of Anglesey.
The weather forecast had promised a rare clear morning, which was all the incentive I needed for this crazy venture to catch the sunrise over Puffin Island as a time lapse video.
What I wasn't expecting when I got up that morning was the amazing show of colours in the pre-dawn sky as the wispy high clouds caught the light of the yet to rise sun in a kaleidoscope of mauve, orange and yellow while the sea below reflected the magenta colour of the darker sky high overhead.
So after I'd managed to undrop my jaw, I set up and photographed a few frames (including this one) at maximum possible exposure to capture the colours in all their glory before dialling the exposure down for the start of my time lapse sequence.
Once the time lapse shooting was underway I spent the rest of my time here just marvelling at the beauty of God's creation until it was time to pack up and head off to work for an 8am start.
Mornings like this one are pretty rare, and all the more enjoyable as a result.
