There's something about lighthouses that I find compelling.
Wherever I am, if there's a lighthouse in the area I'll want to go and see it, with a view to getting some meaningful photos that express something of how I feel.
Fortunately, living in North Wales, I have access to a few dramatic lighthouses which I tend to visit regularly at all times of the year.
One of my favourites, due to its setting and surroundings, is the lighthouse at Penmon Point on the southeastern tip of the beautiful Isle of Anglesey, just off the North Wales coast.
Remote and unspoilt, this spot is a favourite not just with me but with a number of other outdoor photographers as well. Just google 'photos of penmon lighthouse' to see what I mean.
So on this visit I was after exploring some fresh angles on this iconic scene.
A walk north along the cliff top away from the lighthouse brought me to a steep path down onto the rock and shingle beach, and a bit of careful manoeuvering eventually resulted in this near-far composition that's a bit different to the more photographed views of the lighthouse.
I rather like it.
