How to convey mood in a photograph?
Penmon Point, on the beautiful Isle of Anglesey off the North Wales coast, has long been a favourite haunt of mine and never fails to engender a feeling of calm and tranquility in my mind whenever I visit.
Just sitting on the rocks watching the tide come in while listening to the waves breaking and maybe catching a view of a passing seal or porpoise does it for me every time.
I've taken hundreds of photos here over the years, striving to distill at least some of the ambiance of this place into a still image, sometimes with more sucess than others.
This is my latest effort, and, I think, one of my more sucessful attempts to convey a sense of Penmon into a picture.
The mood is definitely helped by the long exposure, which has softened the waves and clouds to a milky blur while leaving the static elements in the frame nice and sharp in contrast.
A subsequent conversion to monochrome, with a hint of a biege tint, has also helped convey a feeling of calm which the colours in the scene were disrupting.
All in all, a final image with at least some of the 'feel' of Penmon Point coming across.
Of course, to get the full experience you'll just have to visit!
