Paris really is a tale of two cities, with the traditional old city centre along the banks of the Seine counterpointed by the ultra modern business area which is centred on the huge Grande Arche de la Defense shown here.
While I enjoy photographing modern architecture, with all its angles and repeating patterns, I try and include something organic in my pictures, as a contrast between what is manmade and what is God made.
In this case I composed the shot based on what I wanted to include of the Grande Arche, and waited for a suitable 'organic' subject to appear.
This typically stylish and pre-occupied parisian woman shopper fitted the bill perfectly, as her expression and action matched the business like atmosphere pervading this area of Paris.
