This radical monument sits atop the headland above the quaint little Normandy seaside town of Etretat, and marks the spot from which two french aviators, Charles Nungesser and François Coli, set off in 1927 on their ill fated attempt to fly across the Atlantic in their biplane L'Oiseau Blanc.
Liz and I had visited here a couple of days previously during our week long stay in Normandy, but the weather was pants and I certainly couldn't have done justice photographically to such a poignant scene under those conditions.
Fortunately our second visit to Etretat was made under much more favourable lighting, with a striking sunset to set against a striking monument to a brave and daring feat.
