A grey, dizzly day on the coast of northern France found Liz and I on the seafront at the Normandy resort of Etretat.
Beloved of artists such as Monet, in the right weather conditions Etretat is a delightful spot.
However, on a day like this grand scale picturesque views are hard to realize, so I was glad of the line of small yachts drawn up on the beach, with their masts punctuating the greyness of the sky, that gave me something to photograph.
A conversion to monochrome was the order of the day, as the colours were dismal under the flat light, and lack of saturation helped bring out the melancholy mood that only a wet day by the sea can engender.
