A beautiful spring day in mid May and for once the sun is shining over the mountains and valleys of the Snowdonia National Park in North Wales.
A very popular place to stop, hike and admire the views is at the head of the Nant Ffrancon valley, comprising a huge escarpment covered in mature woodland over which a waterfall plunges to the lush valley floor below.
This view shows the head of the waterfall, just before it starts its plunge to the depths below, and what drew my eye to this particular view was the sunlit patch of bright green moss set against the grey rocks.
Mind you, the extremes of contrast in this view meant that I had to take five seperate exposures, each one stop apart, for a subsequent high dynamic range (HDR) blend in Adobe Lightroom to enable detail to be seen in the brightest and darkest parts of the frame.
I was really pleased with the end result (you never quite know how these HDR blends are going to turn out beforehand), with an image that conveys a sense of light and airiness that I certainly felt as I was taking the photos.
