One of the few TV programs I really enjoy is Weatherman Walking, on the BBC, in which meteorologist Derek Brockway explores various walks and rambles around the beauty spots of Wales.
One of his walks took in a favourite area of mine, the Nant Ffrancon valley in the Snowdonia National Park.
Inspired after watching the program, a lovely summer's day was all the incentive my wife Liz and I needed to re-visit the Nant Ffrancon valley and check out its beauty from both ends.
This photo was taken at the southern head of the valley, looking north towards the Bethesda and the North Wales coast.
With a regular stream of cumulus clouds passing over the valley there was a delightful play of light and shadow over the sides and floor of Nant Ffrancon, and Liz and I enjoyed watching this view for quite some time.
In fact, I was so entranced by the scene that I made a time lapse video showing the moving shadows, of which this still image was just one of the hundreds of RAW files I took on that occasion.
A conversion to monochrome helped bring out the drama of the lighting in this individual frame.
