This is the summit of Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales, photographed from halfway up the Pyg Track.
This is a highly unusual view of Snowdon, as most of the time the peak is covered in cloud and the light is flat as a pancake.
However, when the sun does decide to shine in Snowdonia then magic happens, as the light picks out various mountain features, while leaving others in shadow.
It was this juxtaposition of shadow and highlight that attracted me to this scene. I love the way that Snowdon's peak is lit, while the area below is in shadow, and then this shadow area gives way to a fully lit foreground full of interesting stones and a path that leads the eye through the scene towards the summit focal point.
Add a few wispy clouds and my joy is complete!
