The last light of the setting sun streams up the Menai Straits between the Island of Anglesey and the outskirts of Conway on a freezing winter's afternoon on the North Wales coast.
To the south, the snow covered high peaks of Snowdonia glow magenta in the light of the dying sun, while below the lower hills and town are bathed in deep blue shadow as the colour temperature goes through the roof.
Stood on the far shore of the Menai Straits, Liz and I continue to watch, spellbound as the last light fades from the peaks and the deep blue of twilight blankets the scene ready for the coming night.
The temperature drops well below zero under the clear sky and the first stars become visible as we get back in the car, crank up the heater and head home for that all too welcome cup of coffee.
