Standing in my daughter's back garden in the freezing cold admiring the first supermoon of 2018 with my grandsons, I certainly wasn't going to waste the opportunity to take a few photos.
So with my 100-400mm zoom lens fully extended and a fast shutter speed dialled in I took a dozen or so frames, with the intention of choosing the sharpest for further enhancements in Adobe Lightroom.
But what I didn't realise at the time of shooting was that one of the frames had also captured the passage of a jet aircraft across the face of the full moon, rendered as a tiny silhouette.
The serendipitous addition of the aeroplane elevated the image to a whole different level, and instead of just being a technically proficient photo of the moon it became a metaphor for travel, adventure and the insignificance of man when set against the wonders of the universe.
Not bad for what was originally just a grab shot!
