A beautiful sunny afternoon in early May and my wife Liz and I were busy exploring somewhere we'd never been before, the reservoir of Marchlyn Mawr and its surroundings, high up in the Glyderau mountains at the foot of Elidir Fach.
This reservoir is part of the Electric Mountain pumped hydro-electric storage system, and we were guided here with directions supplied by local photographer Nick Livesey of the Soul of Snowdonia Gallery, so a big 'Thank You' to him for pointing us in the right direction.
The walk up to the reservoir is a gentle one, up a well tarmaced and maintained service road, while taking in some lovely views of the surrounding mountains and landscape on the way.
The sky was almost cloudless during our climb, but every now and then a single cumulus cloud would form and then decay away over the course of a few minutes only.
So I took advantage of a passing cloud to compose this image, balancing the solid and seemingly eternal foreground rocks in the bottom of the frame with the ethereal and fleeting cloud wafting by overhead.
An intriguing juxtaposition of the temporary and permanent.
